Today, in class we practiced making in-text citations for: short quotes, paraphrasing, and long quotes (4 lines or more). Below is a set of examples students built together. For homework, they were asked to look at pages 35-38 of their Social Studies textbook, and make each of the three types of quotes. An excellent place to go to know the format for MLA citations is:
Purdue Owl and EasyBib can even format a bibliography, if you enter all the citation information. (click underlined words for links to websites) Students were asked to make a timeline of their history at LU. If they were here for many years, they should divide the line into years. If they were here only a few years, they could divide the line into months or half years. One student just started attending LU, this week. So she made a timeline depicting days. Students were asked to look through their looped fingers, and frame my camera. Once framed, they were told to closed one eye, then the other, to see which eye they favour. From this photo, we can see which eye they favour - it's the eye that is framed in their finger-loop! For homework yesterday, students were asked to make a map, to show Ms. Y how to get from school, to their house. They had to include a legend/key to identify different landmarks along the way. Below, are a few samples of the student work. The first image shows a close-up map that Aisha made, followed by a zoomed out perspective showing context. In Science, we have been exploring cycles, patterns, and mapping. There are different ways to represent space and time. Yesterday, students were asked to make a circle, with themselves at the center, and describe different cycles that occur each year. Below are a few examples.
